Waypoint Team
The Waypoint Team recognized Juneteenth this year with a day of community service at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco. Rabbi Michael Lezak and Tenderloin Community Leader Del Seymour facilitated discussions with our group about the challenges facing the residents of the Tenderloin. After a morning of learning, Team Waypoint volunteered with Men Matter, a wellness and self-care program for men in the Glide community. Waypoint donated 1400 pairs of warm socks to GLIDE for distribution to people living in the Tenderloin and our Waypoint volunteers served food and helped individuals select clothing made available to them through Glide. It was a day that brought so much: grittiness, discomfort, and honesty paired with action, hope and love. We are grateful to Michael Lezak and Del Seymour for so generously welcoming us.

Chuck
Chuck has been busy with his daughter’s High School graduation, his son being home from college and his 9-month-old puppy! Lots of bike riding, with and without kids/dog, and a few trips up to his happy place – the high mountains. He has very mixed feelings about what life will be like without any kids at home AND a puppy!

Annette
Annette had a summer that almost felt normal this year, dramatically different than 2020! “With high vaccination rates in the Bay Area, we were able to enjoy our beloved Jazz by the Bay every Friday night, Sausalito’s 4th of July picnic and live music, the opening of a great new yoga studio in town, birthday celebrations, trips up the coast and to the wine country, family visits in Portland and LA a beautiful wedding in Napa. It was a wonderful summer!”

Courtney
Q2 was filled with a lot of firsts for Courtney and her family. Ella did swimming lessons and summer camp for the first time and loved every minute! Riley met her Nonna and Pop Pop (TJ’s parents) for the first time and we celebrated Pop Pop’s 70th birthday together. Riley also started walking at 11 months, wanting to do everything her big sister does. Courtney and TJ celebrated their 5-year anniversary with a day in wine country. The weather has been perfect for pool time and trips to Dillon Beach and the Oakland Zoo. The Hutch crew has been busy and having a lot of family fun!

Becca
Becca’s second quarter was filled with a few outdoor adventures. She went backpacking in Yosemite, the Trinity Alps, and Foresthill with friends. In Hetch Hetchy, Yosemite, they saw a three-foot rattle snake slither across the trail a few feet ahead of them while hiking. On her American River trip, she and her friends got an early morning start and arrived to set up camp at the river by 9am! They celebrated their early arrival with a group tequila shot and spent the rest of the day swimming and fishing in the river.

Rania
In May Rania spent a week in Puerto Rico exploring all parts of the island with Adriana. Her top two highlights were learning how to surf on the western coast of the island and trying all the different types of ceviche. She plans to visit again to explore even more that the beautiful island has to offer!

Jesse
Jesse and Matthias made the most of their time in New Orleans, soaking up the art, music, wildlife, and delicious food of Louisiana. They were sad to leave in June when they drove back across the country but are looking forward to seeing friends and family on the West Coast. They’re spending the summer in Portland, OR and are planning to make frequent trips to the Bay Area now that they’re back in the Pacific time zone.

Avelina
Avelina has been getting outdoors during this second quarter. She took a trip to Santa Cruz with friends where they stopped at the Swanton Berry Farm Stand along highway 1 to enjoy some fresh berry cobbler and some tasty seasonal homemade jams. She has also been out on the American Rver a couple times swimming, enjoying the hot weather and taking in the beautiful scenery.
