Behind the Scenes Q1 & Q2 2024

Waypoint Team

2024 has been a productive and busy time for the Waypoint Team! In February, we gathered in Mill Valley for our company wide team retreat. Jerry Cobb led our team through a session on Positive Leadership and Liv Olson facilitated a session on growth and business development. The team walked away with some key learnings to use in their day-to-day interactions with team members and clients. During the first half of this year, many teammates experienced difficult times in their personal lives. In June, WWP hosted a wellness retreat at Annette’s home. At this team retreat, we were led through a cacao ceremony, sound bath, and group meditation. It was an experience many had not tried before and left the team balanced, rejuvenated, and refreshed. We also came together for our Annual Team Service Day. This year we volunteered at the Mattie and Clarence Boatman Community Garden in Marin City. The garden benefits the residents of Golden Gate Village and is run by a wonderful organization in Marin City called Women Helping All People (WHAP). We cleaned up the gardens to get it ready for the residents to plant their summer crops. It was a rewarding experience for all and reminded the team how the act of cleaning a garden can have a ripple effect on creating positive food patterns for a community.

Annette

Annette was on the move in the first half of the year. First stop was Hawaii in January to relax and re-boot after a busy Q4. She then moved into conference season, going to Arizona for a Women’s conference February, then to DFA’s conference in North Carolina to hear about trends in our industry and then back to Arizona again in April for FPA Retreat. “It’s always so inspiring for me to get together with my peers from across the country, to hear from thought leaders and share ideas.” This time of year is also when Annette puts in a lot time with the Sausalito Woman’s Club Scholarship Board on their annual fundraising event and awarding scholarships. “This year we gave just over $100,000 to 24 students in Sausalito and Marin City, the most we’ve ever done in our history.  It’s always so rewarding.”

Chuck

The first half of 2024 was a busy one for Chuck.  Started with a week-long adventure through Death Valley and the eastern sierras with his daughter Genny. Included some winter adventures in Tahoe with Paula and his dog Agnew, had to see the boss Bruce Springsteen one more time at chase center with his good friends, but the highlight was a week-long birthday celebration trip with Paula to southeastern Utah including a hike down the length of the narrows in Zion National Park.  Along the way we said goodbye to Paula’s mom Angela but we'll always remember her fondly.

Courtney

Courtney and her family had a great start to 2024. Lots of kid activities with soccer, softball, gymnastics and basketball. Ella completed 1st grade, and Riley had a great first year in pre-school. TJ and Courtney celebrated their 8th year anniversary in April right after a fun family trip to Carlsbad, CA with friends for Spring Break. Other fun family outings included Stinson Beach, Sonoma Train Town, SF Zoo and SF Tunnel Park.

Jesse

Jesse and Matthias welcomed their first child on June 21st – the summer solstice AND the night of the strawberry moon! Matilda June Shore was born at 2:30am weighing 8lbs 10oz. The family of three is spending the summer in Portland enjoying the nice weather, time with family, and making the most of these first few months together. So far, Matilda’s favorite hobbies include listening to her grandparents play the ukelele and sing, bouncing on the yoga ball, and dipping her toes in the Willamette River. They will be heading back to New Orleans in mid-September and Jesse is on maternity leave until October 7th.

Lindsay

The first half of 2024 was memorable to say the least! Most notable is that Lindsay and Noah (finally!) got engaged. He popped the question as part of a birthday staycation for Lindsay in May. Also notable is that CJ is officially taller than his mom (who is pretty tall herself). Lindsay had fun going to St. Louis Cardinal’s games and country concerts. The highlight of the first part of summer was a family trip to Norris Lake in Tennessee. The weather was great, and the kids loved spending time in the water.

Avelina

The first half of the year flew by for Avelina! She enjoyed all that spring and summer brought in gathering with friends and family for some fun BBQ’s, a family reunion, and lots of time spent outdoors exploring with her dog Chunk. Avelina is looking forward to the rest of summer in Sacramento and getting out on her paddleboard as much as she can before the warm weather is gone!

Rania

In March, Rania represented Waypoint at the UC Berkeley Extension Personal Financial Planning Career Night by being one of three panelists. It was an opportunity to highlight the meaningful work that Waypoint does along with sharing her personal story to prospective students and current students in the financial planning field. It was a great evening with many inspirational speakers and connecting with other financial professionals.

Anabel

Anabel has been spending lots of time in her yard, taking full advantage of her green thumb. This year, she’s grown tulips, wildflowers, and succulents, with the help of her furry friends who make sure the flowers are watered when needed. This summer, Anabel also visited the UCSC Arboretum, a place she’d been wanting to see. She had a great time looking at their outdoor art and plants from all over the world. Although she had to leave early because of the hot 90-degree weather, she loved walking around and even bought a plant from their gift shop to take home. She also managed to squeeze in a visit to her local art museum, where she enjoyed seeing the latest artwork on display.

Becca

The first half of the year was quite challenging for Becca. She spent a good amount of time in NY caring for her dad as his health drastically declined. She appreciated getting the chance to find and relocate him to a fantastic skilled nursing facility to get him the care he needs. She enjoyed spending quality time with her dad and family while back east.
