Behind the Scenes Q4 2019

WWP Team

Team Waypoint hosted their Annual Holiday Lunch at Mourad, a Michelin star restaurant in San Francisco. The beautiful restaurant décor, Moroccan inspired cuisine, and carefully selected wine parings were nothing short of delicious. Following lunch, Team Waypoint took part in a white elephant game, a new tradition they started last year which is so much fun!

Rania, Jesse, Chuck, and Adriana dove headfirst into furthering their knowledge on stock compensation and took the Stock Compensation and Management of Concentration Risks and Opportunities course. The class was part of UC Berkeley Extension’s Program in Personal Financial Planning and it was taught by experts, Tim Kochis and Michael Lewis, authors of “Managing Concentrated Stock Wealth.” The lectures and class discussions were focused on maximizing the value of a stock-based compensation plan and how to best manage the concentration risk. “Looking back, it was well worth spending three Saturdays in a classroom with other professionals discussing stock compensation, especially considering how relevant it is here in the Bay Area.”

Annette

Annette spent the long Thanksgiving weekend in Portland with Adrian’s family this year. “His brother, Charles, cooked an amazing feast and we just got to turn up and enjoy…such a treat!  And every trip to Portland involves trying a new, cool restaurant, which was Eem this time. Great Thai BBQ with a twist and extraordinary cocktails. I highly recommend!”

Annette and Adrian stayed local for the Christmas holiday and watched the last sunset of the decade on the cliffs above Cavallo Point. “This is such a spectacular spot, one of our favorites.  Not a day goes by that we don’t appreciate it.”

Chuck

While attending his semi-annual meeting for the Family Wealth Advisors Council in Park City, Utah, Chuck found some time to try something new - snowmobiling!  While a bit of stretch to put this in the category of "lifelong learner", he did enjoy the experience. Other highlights of the conference included investment strategies for the current economy, talent development, and staying healthy in our stressful world. Chuck's son, CJ, survived his freshman semester at Case Western in Cleveland and his daughter is gearing up for her college search.

Courtney

Courtney, TJ and Ella stayed local for the holidays this year and enjoyed spending time with their family visiting from out of town. Ella loved meeting her baby cousin, Weston, for the first time, but can’t say the same about her meeting with Santa!  One highlight from their holiday visit was a trip to Train Town in Sonoma – a fun day was had by all.

Jesse

Jesse spent three weeks cruising around New Zealand in a campervan in late December and early January. She and her boyfriend, Matthias, hiked, surfed, snorkeled, spelunked, scuba dove, and sailed their way through the North Island. While they didn’t see any hobbits, they did see geysers, volcanoes, penguins, hot springs, glow worms, and lots of waterfalls! They’re hoping to plan a return trip soon so that they can see the South Island and give Matthias a chance to swim the Cook Strait – one of the seven open ocean marathon swims!

Rania

Rania spent several days around the holidays in Tahoe with her long-time friend. They enjoyed great weather and fresh powder while skiing the mountains. One of the highlights of the trip was a mid-day champagne toast at the top of the mountain – not a bad reason to take a break! They wrapped up the long days with relaxing in the hot tub followed by time around the fireplace.

Avelina

Avelina spent her Christmas in Hawaii with her family, enjoying the tropical weather and beautiful beaches. “The sunrises and sunsets were so serene; unlike any I’ve seen before. My favorite part of the trip was being able to relax and be on Island Time. Eating local Hawaiian food and the famous garlic shrimp on the North Shore was another highlight of the trip. Pictured below you can see me at the top of Diamond Head Crater, one of the most popular hikes on Oahu. The second shot is a beautiful sunrise, one of the many I was lucky enough to catch.”
